One of three parallel commissions (to RIBA work stage H) to provide additional accommodation for support services for parents, training and counselling, at inner city community nursery sites for Westminster Children’s Society, a private nursery provider with charitable status providing affordable childcare.

Holcroft Community Childcare Centre occupies the basement level of the inner courtyard to a housing block, Fitzrovia. A new extension occupies part of an external lower ground court, its planted roof conceived as a landscape element within the communal gardens of the block.

An extension to the Queensborough Nursery site provides a new facade to their external play area, integrating a proposed extension to contain a relocated staff office, and creating two new courtyards that provide outdoor space for staff and under 2’s.

In addition to the proposed new extensions, the project has required analysis of the use of existing spaces, and possible re-allocation of functions to make best use of the site in relation to access & security.
